Safety Hiking Reminders

Hiking is becoming a popular activity around the world despite the fact that it is physically exhausting. A hiker must endure a minimum of two days of non-stop trekking without the luxury of decent comfort rooms. Yet, all is worth it once you’ve reached the roof of the world. The summit gives you the opportunity to witness the spectacular sea of clouds. Even though you’re already a hiking expert, you should not overlook safety precautions.

Check the climate situation. It’s essential that you’ll be aware on how the weather will go the entire day. Any prediction of strong winds, rainfall, or snow storm should not be ignored. Don’t risk even a simple precipitation, unless you want a fun hiking trip turned into tragedy.

Pack lightly but efficiently. Hiking is challenging. Aside from your body weight, you also need to carry a backpack that contains all your necessities for the entire trip. Avoid bringing to much clothes since there’s no place for you to take a bath or freshen up. Remove unnecessary clutters such as extra pillow, toiletries, spare shoes, etc. Water and energy bars are your primary needs for survival.

Don’t forget the map and compass. The last thing you want is to get lost in the mountain. You should not rely on your instincts when it comes to hiking. Base your every move to the map and compass. It’s also not ideal to rely on your memory even though it’s not the first time you’ve travelled on that trail.

Invest on reliable cellular phones. Professional hikers and mountain climbers have cellular phones that are custom made for places with difficult reception. It doesn’t look sleek and appealing like a smartphone, but it is shock proof and water proof perfect for rough adventures.

First aid kit is your lifesaver. Bring your own emergency kit when hiking. Treat cuts immediately with antiseptics and cover it with a plaster before it gets infected. Medicines for headache and allergy is handy during situations where you’re miles away from hospital setting.

Don’t overlook the benefit of bringing portable chargers and extra batteries. It would be a dilemma if your flashlight suddenly ran out of battery in the middle of the woods. How will you be able to survive at time? Though you’ve tested it before you leave the house, it’s still safe to bring a spare.

Always let someone know that you’re hiking. Either you’re hiking alone or in groups, it’s better to let a close friend or a member of your family know when and where you are going. If you’re using a travel agency as a tour guide, obtain their contact details and let the people close to you know about it. It’s also essential to tell them the duration of the trip. So in case you’re not back on the expected date, it would alert them immediately that something must have gone wrong. A search party can be sent out immediately on the parameters where your hiking trip took place.
