A Guide To Dining in France

One of the best things that you can ever enjoy when you visit France is the delicious cuisine that the country offers. However, you should understand the fact that there are some dining etiquette that you should follow when you eat out in France. This is most especially true when you have been invited over by a French friend or someone you meet during your trip. Here are some of the tips that you should know about:

·         Wait for the host.
If you have been invited over for dinner or for a party at a French’s house, you should avoid eating right away. You have to wait for the host to say “Bon apetit!” before you dig in. Eating before the host says these words will be considered rude.

·         Know your utensils.
You should know where you should place your fork and knife while eating and after eating. You must use your right hand to hold your knife and you must use your left hand to hold fork. Once you are finished with your meal, it is best that you place your fork and knife in a way that they are parallel to one another. These utensils must be placed across the right side of your plate.

·         Place your hands at the right position.
In between bites, when you are not using your hands to hold your utensils, it is recommended that you place your hands above the table. Your hands must be visible to the other guests at all times.

·         Do not cut your lettuce.
Salad will always be part of a meal in France. When you have been served a salad, you must avoid cutting the lettuce. Instead, you must fold it using your fork and knife until it becomes a small bundle which you can easily pick up with your fork. After that, you are free to dig in!

·         Do not ask for refill.
All guests at a party is expected to consume all the foods that have been served in their plate. However, they must avoid asking for refills or seconds if they are not offered any. For beverages, you can request for additional serving. In fact, they will readily give you additional servings of beverage when your glass is already half full.
