How to Safe-Proof your Car when Traveling?

Your car might serve as a temporary home during travelling, but try to keep your stuffs in order. It’s important to keep things stowed or hidden especially those items that you plan to leave in your car whether it’s valuable or not. Put all things in the trunk or other safe compartment before you even get into the car instead of arranging everything in the parking garage or hotel lot.
When planning to return to the same parking area, you need to take your stuff out away from the lot if possible. Opportunistic people are everywhere and they can easily notice your activity if you return in the same parking spot.
It’s important to choose your parking spot wisely. The last thing you want is your car being robbed of your valuable item or your car is literally stolen. When parking on the streets, choose a space that is near to the fire hydrants. According to statistics, cars that are parked near the No Parking Fire Zone have a less chance of getting robbed compared to others. For airport lots, it is advisable to choose a parking in view of the parking office or exit toll booths. These areas have increased foot traffic and eyeball count that discouraged potential robbers. Well-lit areas are also your next best options. Airport lots have plenty of surveillance cameras installed making it easier for an attendant to observe your car.
If you are storing valuable items in your trunk then you may want to point the trunk out into the lot aisle where people can easily see anyone trying to break in. Parking within the sight of a hotel entrance, busy store, or under a street lamp is advisable.
Finding a parking spot on the busy city is hard enough, how much more if you’re looking for a safe corner. At this time, you might need to pay for a parking garage. It’s a lot safer since the area is guarded by a watcher. But it doesn’t make you immune to robbery since most travelers get ripped off by garage employees themselves. Install a decent alarm system in your car and don’t leave any juicy items like cellphones, tablets, GPS units, or MP3 players.
Don’t rely much on valet parking or attendants, instead, self-park whenever you can. Handing the wheel to another person is like giving him an opportunity to make a quick scan inside your car to check any valuables. Keep your car neat and avoid hiding important items by jackets or beach towels. You might seem that you’re camouflaging your gadgets, but it is an obvious hint to thieves. A clean and neat car are less likely to get robbed.
Upon arriving at your parking space, it’s important to make a quick sweep of your personal belongings to detect any stolen items. Keep in mind that thieves know what to take and sometimes you won’t notice it until you are long gone in the area.
