Signing Up For Travel Flight Alerts

Now that we have Facebook set up and you’re getting flight alerts, let’s talk about what websites you should sign up for to receive additional travel alerts. The following websites don’t send out error fares or amazingly cheap deals that need to be booked at a moment’s notice, but they do post some really good deals and they last much longer.

AIRFARE WATCHDOG

A lot of people use airfarewatchdog.com to build their travel bucket list. They have a cool feature that allows you to put in what cites you want to travel to and the price you want to pay. They will then send you an alert when a flight for the price want, going to your destination becomes available. You can also tell them which airlines you don’t want to receive offers from, which is also a great feature. Another reason they make people’s list is because they are one of the only websites that will send alerts for Southwest Airlines.

FARE COMPARE

This is another one of traveler’s go-to websites. People like this site because they love to use miles to travel. So whenever possible, they try their best to book my flights on American Airlines. With Fare Compare they give you the ability to search for deals by departure city and airline. That means you can type in LAX to “everywhere” on American Airlines and it will send you daily alerts on all of the flights leaving from LAX on American Airlines that, based on their algorithm, are considered to be good deals.

AIR-FARE

Some have a love hate relationship with this website. Not because the information isn’t good (it’s great) but the website is in need of some serious updating. While the website appears to be outdated (ignore the part at the bottom that says “last updated in 2008”), the rates are actually current. Many have contacted them several times about changing it, but here we are in 2016 and they’re still stuck in 2008, but people just ignore it. People recommend this site because, at a quick glance every day, you can get an idea of what’s leaving from my city and what the prices are. This gives you a starting point to compare with other websites, but it’s not uncommon for me to end up booking what they have posted because it’s often the lowest price you can find. The downside to this site is they focus only on domestic flights and only list about 25 departures cities. One thing to note, Air-fare.com is NOT the same company or website as Airfare.com. Airfare.com is a website which is not that popular, based on its laundry list of negative reviews, it should be avoided.

Be careful in scoring your travel flights online. Only transact with reputable sites!

Gearing Up For Your Travel Camp

Camping is one way to enjoy a travel. But, you must be prepared for it. Listed below are the things you must know and have when camping.

Protect Your Tissue

When in the wild, the weather can be temperamental and a quick rain can easily drench your paper towels. So, how to protect them? Easy, just repurpose a plastic coffee can—the Folgers plastic container is perfect for this. Just, make a vertical slit on the side of the can, where the piece of tissue comes out for easy access. You can also add a piece of tie in there for easy hanging of your waterproof tissue dispenser.

Tick Deterrent

As we have mentioned above, the great outdoors can be host to many disease carrying insects. So protect yourself against Lyme disease carrying ticks with this easy to make spray. Just mix 2 parts water and 1 part tea tree oil in a spray bottle. Spray these on pant cuffs, socks, shoes, and entrance to your tent. Repeat this process daily just before wearing your gear and going out on your daily activities.

Get to Know Poisonous Plants

As I have mentioned before, there are poisonous plants in the wild and by just brushing your skin against these leaves; it can cause an allergic reaction. Further, to eliminate any worrying, get to know the poisonous plants in the area, as some of these may not be around your geographical location—so there is no actual need to worry. One of the best ways to protect yourself is through prevention by getting to know these poisonous plants.

Water Repellant Clothing

When going camping, the type of clothing best used and packed are water repellant because even though it repels water, the material is still breathable which allows air circulation.

Layer Your Clothes

When camping the best way to be ready for any temperature change is to layer on clothing. You can just remove layers of clothes if it is too warm or pile on clothes to keep you warm during inclement weather.
Sunblock

When you are outdoors, do not forget to protect your skin with sunblock. Likewise have protection for your eyes with an appropriate sunglass and an appropriate lip balm for your lips.

Waterproof your Shoes

If you are wearing canvas shoes during camping, you can easily waterproof them by covering it with beeswax. Do this by rubbing beeswax all over your shoes. Once it is sufficiently covered with beeswax, blows dry your shoes. This will melt the beeswax and create a transparent shield all around your shoes.

Happy vacation!

Mistakes To Avoid When Traveling With Pets

Are you planning a trip with your entire family, including your furbabies? If yes, then there are lots of things that you have to think about. We are all aware that bringing your pets on your trips is not the kost comfortable option but there are many ways on how you can do that. If you wish to keep your pets safe and comfortable during your trip, there are plenty of pet travel tips that you should keep in mind. To begin with, here are some of the mistakes that you should avoid:

Not securing a pet health certificate.
If you will be traveling via plane, you should understand the fact that your pet needs a health certificate so he can be cleared for traveling. The certificate is a proof that your pet has all the necessary vaccinations. In addition to that, this also shows that the vaccines of your pet has been regularly updated. You can secure the health certificate from a licensed veterinarian. Just simply pay a visit to the vet a week before your trip. Health certificates are usually valid for only 8-10 days so if your trip will be exceeding that, it is recommended that you get another certificate as well.

Not talking with the vet.
You should never ever go out on a trip with your furbaby without consulting the vet first. After all, keeping your pets healthy in a foreign land should be your primary goal. When you visit the vet, he will be able to tell you if your pet is fit for travel. In addition to that, he will also be able to teach you and educate you about what you should do in the event that an emergency takes place.

Not putting ID tag on your pet.
We all know that pets love to run and be free. That is why there is a high chance that you pet will get lost. For events like these, it is important that you create a way on how you can find your pets easily while traveling. You can do this by put a pet tag on him. Make sure that the tag contains information like the address of the hotel that you are in, your contact number and your name. In this way, any one who can find your pet will be able to know where he can return it.
It is true that traveling with pets is quite a difficult thing to do. There are indeed many things that you can do wrong. But if you consider your pet as your travel companion, then you should avoid doing the mistakes mentioned above. In this way, both you and your pet will be able to enjoy a hassle-free trip.

A Millennial's Guide In Travel Safety

Traveling as young people means extra caution. It is not a big surprise that millennials are all for traveling. It enables them to experience new things and be exposed to different cultures.
Young people in vacations tend to be really experimental. Alcohol consumption accompanied by partying seem to be given. But, some of the news all over the world exposed the fact that these kind of activities sometimes lead to dangerous events.

Here are some basic travel tips to help avoid any disastrous situations.
Be well aware of your limits. Irresponsible drinking is probably the most leading cause of many accidents and crimes. If you are in a foreign land, things will be twice harder for you. If you practice caution when drinking, this will be easily avoided. Apart from that, it will help you escape the woes of hangover. Binge drinking is never ideal. Alcohol affects your inhibitions and judgment.

Always have company. Wherever you are going, avoid going alone. Ladies, should take note of this. Buddy system is effective in increasing your chances of not getting attacked. If you get separated from your friends, try to contact them or set a  meeting place at a certain time beforehand. In the unfortunate event that you lose your phone, this plan will save you from harm's way.

Avoid taking stuff that strangers offer. Partying may be for meeting new people, but being wary of your surroundings is vital in keeping your group safe. There are plenty of people out there who are pretending to be nice, but are only actually doing that with the intention of taking advantage of you. This may sound like such a negative thought, but at this day and age, you would do well to be vigilant. For the golden rule: Never, ever leave with a stranger just by yourself or give them any detail about where you are staying.

Be mindful of the consequences that can happen if you are not careful. Think before you act. This should be a life rule, but should be exercised well while traveling abroad. Avoid taking illegal substances. The last thing you want is to enjoy a free night inside a prison cell. Plenty of countries do not condone such acts. You do not want to cause an international incident and put your life in jeopardy.

When dressing up, avoid looking too expensive. Do not wear jewelry. Instead go for, simple accessories. Attracting thieves is not something you would want. Dress nicely, but appropriately to the activities you will be doing. Do not bring too much cash. Bring only a single credit card for emergencies.

Have copies of your travel documents. You can present them easily, once needed. Keep them safe. Make multiple copies and eave a copy of the documents in your hotel room for emergencies.
These tips are very simple, but are always neglected. It may be difficult to be sensible while having fun, but it is necessary to keep yourself safe.

5 Amazing Tips to Enjoy Your Travelling

Already tired of the stressful days of your work? Then why don’t you have a vacation!? It is really fun and enjoying. You will be relieved from your stress by just having a vacation. Here are 5 amazing tips to enjoy your travelling.

Say Hello and Give a Smile
Don’t expect the local people to say hello to you and smile at you whenever you are in their city. It is actually the job that you should do! Usually, local people will just ignore you if they see you around. However, if you make eye contact with them, don’t hesitate to make a smile with them and say hello. It is actually just the start of something. Initiate the contact and they will be the one to open a talk with you.

Better Spend than Disappointed
If you don’t want to be disappointed after your vacation, do spend the money if it is really worth it! Many prefer to budget their money. But sometimes, it is actually not a wise thing to do. You will just go to that place once or twice in a lifetime. This is the reason why spending a little more in some of the fancy restaurants in the place, going to the famous areas in town and doing well-knownactivities that are done in the city is very worth it.

Be Open Minded
Being open minded is important when you are travelling. You will meet new people in the place and you may have opposite preferences and ideas. Being an open minded person will make your travelling better instead of arguing and being pissed off. Listen to the opinions of others, but you don’t need to agree 100% with them. Learn to understand the beliefs of others and stand with their shoes. It is also good to ask questions to learn more and be surprised.

Visit Couchsurfing
Everyone wants to budget their money when travelling. One way to do it is by visiting Couchsurfing website. There are many local people out there who are offering their couches or extra bed spaces for travellers. They may ask for few cash but, it is still cheaper than going into a hotel. Sometimes, people offer it for free! The advantage here is that you will learn more about the life of the locals by living with them even just for a while. It is fun and safe.

Bring your Ear Plugs
An enjoyable moment is when you are at peace. No one hates a silent environment. It helps you to think and meditate while you are enjoying your surroundings. If you are staying in a place and there are noise, just put on your ear plugs and everything is fine! Muffle drunken people, crying baby, unpleasant car horns, dog barking and many more!

Choose Cheap Accommodation

This is pretty self explanatory. Look for the best deals on the internet and if you are thinking about extending you vacation (over a month) then consider signing a short lease, you'll save money and have a place to call home.

Hostels are of course going to be your best bet for saving cash but also are a great place to make travel friends, especially if you're traveling alone. Hostels in a lot of parts of South East Asia can be had for as little as $3 a night!

Now if you really want to save some money then consider Couchsurfing.com. This is a website where you can find a couch to stay free for a night, sometimes you might even get a bed. This is a great way of making new friends and getting a locals perspective of a city.

Often you can help or cook dinner in exchange for getting a free place to sleep for a night or two. These 'beds' exist pretty much all over the world, from New York City to small towns in Africa!

Of course there is also AirBnb.com too. These are homes owned by someone that they rent out for a night, a weekend or longer, usually these are much cheaper than a large hotel too.

Now if you're really tight then here's a little trick if you're catching flights and can put up with a bit of discomfort. If you have a flight that's reasonably early in the morning then consider going to the airport the night before and sleeping there. Yes, right there on some seats!

I've done it quite a few times and it's really not that bad as long as you have something to entertain you.
Also try booking flights that are flying overnight, saving you another night.

And since you would be staying on cheap hostels or houses, do not expect hotel amenities. I am pretty sure you will need an internet to help you roam around the cities and communicate with your loved ones and friends.

If you're ever staying in a city or country for more than a few days then consider getting a local SIM card. These are great so you can make your own way around with Google Maps, find great restaurants, cool things to do and you can always call and text someone too.

The extra cost of buying a SIM card will usually be offset by the time and money you will save in paying for using an Internet cafe anyway.

Enjoy travelling!

Things to Do in France

Visiting France need not be an exhausting itinerary of grimly marching from one museum to the next or seeing one historic monument after one. I personally recommend picking one area of France and exploring it in depth. Seeing a part of France other than Paris is a great way of learning how to appreciate the French way of life, the people, the balance between work and pleasure, and the realization that maybe the French have figured out how to prioritize the important things in life. If you like to go sightseeing, do some research on the region you’re planning to visit before you travel, to fully appreciate the history and the culture.

Some people may want to spend their time shopping, others eating, golfing or just laying around not doing much of anything. Here’s some advice for the adventuresome:

Shopping

The Number One shopping destination is La Vallée Village, a discount shopping outlet mall specializing in designer goods, both French and International labels. La Vallée Village receives more visitors annually than Disneyland Paris nearby. You can take public transportation via TGV and the RER from Paris to the shopping mall or take the Shopping Express Bus from Place des Pyramides in Paris at 9:30am and return by 2:30pm. Round trip fare costs 22€ per adult.

Troyes has France’s biggest collection of fashion factory shops. It is located 170 km east of Paris and you can take the train there. Other discount outlets there include McArthur Glen and Marques Avenue Centers. Galeries Lafayette has stores across France and in Germany. Its flagship store on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris was built in 1893 and its spectacular Art Nouveau glass dome was completed in 1912.

Galeries Lafayette is an upscale department store offering designer goods and fashions for almost any budget.

Golfing

For the men who must suffer through innumerable shopping trips with their wives, France does have 550 golf courses with more than 360,000 affiliated members. In fact, 25 of Europe’s top 100 golf courses are in France. Check their wesbite for the ratings of each golf course.

Painting and Sketching Holidays

For the artistic or creative spirit, there are dozens of painting classes offered in France with English instruction. The Painting School at Montmiral near Toulouse offers a two-week course in painting. The cost of tuition includes teaching, a stay at a local gîte, access to student facilities and four evening meals. Check their site.

Enjoy France on your next adventure!

River Cruising: To Go or Not to Go?

More people are being attracted to seeing the world from graceful ships gently winding their way through rivers around the world. River cruises are throwing off the reputation of being a sedate and uneventful vacation option for senior travelers as arts, culture and history lovers of all ages are drawn to this emerging, and increasingly dynamic, way to travel.

There are many questions and misconceptions that travelers have about river cruising. This book draws on experiences and provides insights into what river cruising is, what to expect and answers to common questions about it.

River cruising is a fast-growing segment of the cruise industry. These leisurely tours wind their way down rivers in Europe, Russia, China, Egypt, Vietnam, and the Mississippi in the United States. River cruises appeal to people who like escorted and packaged vacations, where everything has been taken care of. They tend to appeal and cater to passengers in their 50s, 60s and 70s.

Pros

Fares tend to be more inclusive than ocean passenger ships, and may include flights or fly-cruise packages, transfers to and from the ship, meals, drinks, and escorted excursions.

River cruises often waive the single supplement, or reduce it for solo travelers.

Accommodation will be good quality and comfortable, and all will have windows or balconies. The rooms are compact, due to the limitations on width and height to enable the ships to pass under bridges and through locks.

You will receive a high level of service and attention. Ships are limited in size, carrying around 150 passengers, which enables the crew to get to know passengers and their needs.

There will be constant scenery on both sides of the ship.

Stops along the route will be frequent. Ships dock in the center of towns, allowing easy access for tours and exploring on your own.

There will be a very low chance of seasickness.

Cons

Independent travelers may find the pace too sedate. The routes, on-board facilities, entertainment and excursions are geared for a more mature audience.

Entertainment options are limited, especially in the evenings. There are no theaters or casinos, and on-board entertainment will be limited.

Trips can be disrupted by the state of rivers. In times of drought, ships struggle to reach some areas and, at other times, flooding cause severe disruption.
