Four Tips On Taking Picture During Your Underwater Journey

The underwater world is one of the hidden yet most majestic sights that you can ever get to see in this world. If you are planning an underwater adventure anytime soon, then it is highly recommended that you learn how to perfectly capture the underwater world.

With that in mind, here are some of the best photography tips that you should keep in mind when shooting underwater:

ñ  Try to get close to the subject without getting in the way.
When it comes to shooting underwater, the closer you are to the subject, the better the outcome will be. When you shoot underwater, it is quite difficult for you to achieve the same sharpness and contrast that you will get when shooting in land. Make sure that you get as closest as possible without actually disturbing the subject.

ñ  Always shoot in manual mode.
When you shoot underwater, the only source of light that you can ever have is no other than the sun and at times, it can be quite unreliable. There are times when the sunlight is not enough to provide illumination to your subject. The trick to capturing the perfect underwater photo is to shoot with fast aperture as it allows more light to come in. Plus, you will also have to do some adjustments on your shutter speed. To do this, it would be wise to shoot in manual mode.

ñ  Know how to swim.
Of course, it will be impossible for you to properly shoot underwater if you have no idea how to swim. Before you shoot underwater, it is recommended that you take some swimming lessons and workshops. Knowing how to properly stay afloat without shaking hands or unstable footing will certainly allow you to get a good angle of your subject. In fact, some of the professionals who shoot underwater are required to obtain some diving certifications.

ñ  Shoot raw.
When picking a camera for the shoot, then it is best that you opt for a camera with a raw mode function. The best thing about raw files is that it gives the exact view the way the sensor sees it. When you shoot raw, it will be a lot easier to do some post processing techniques. With a raw format, it will be a lot easier to change the white balance. In addition to that, it will be a lot easier to make some adjustments on recover highlights, exposure and fill light when needed.

If you will be traveling to any of the best underwater spots in the world, it is highly recommended that you follow all the photography tips stated above. Apply these tips and you can surely be able to capture your underwater moments and will have an amazing souvenir of your adventure underwater.
