Travel Adventures: Turkey Travel Guide


Direct flights to Istanbul is accessible from almost anywhere in the world. Upon arriving at Istanbul, you can ride on buses or take another domestic flights to reach some of the tourist attractions. Hiring car is also another option to give you more freedom in creating your itinerary since the roads in Turkey are safe and well-constructed. Turkey offers a wide range of accommodation suitable for high-end travelers and backpackers. There are lots of good deals during off-season, but expect to pay a pricey amount during peak months.

Istanbul. Give yourself at least four full days to genuinely appreciate what Istanbul has to offer for its visitors. The city has a history to rival Rome and Athens – Constantinople. AyaSofya (once a Christian cathedral turned to mosque and now a famous museum), Blue Mosque (built over thousands of years ago), and the Roman Hippodrome are the big sights in Istanbul. It’s also boasting with shopping districts over the Grand Bazaar and Spice Market.

Canakkale (The remains of the city of Troy). Canakkale is a seaside resort in Gallipoli. Troy is a famous Hollywood movie starring Brad Pitt and Eric Bana which is lifted from Homer’s Iliad. If you can remember, the giant wooden horse which caused the downfall of the city of Troy existed and is located on the promenade at Canakkale. The ruins in the city of Troy can instantly take you hundreds of years ago where the Trojans were defending their empire against the Greeks.

Hamam (Turkish bath). Some of the remaining baths are centuries old. It’s an all in one place for sauna, body scrub, and massage. Men and women are separate and it’s up to you to decide how many extras you want. You can get the full service for an amount of $A70.

Turkish tea or coffee partnered with baklava. Turkish delight can be easily found on grocery stores, but that doesn’t mean that you would ignore authentic Turkish delights from Istanbul. Turkish delight and baklava have been served for hundreds of years. An authentic brewed Turkish coffee is served black in small cups while Turkish black tea is served in small liqueur-style glasses.

Sultanahmet. It’s a famous tourist area of Istanbul that was also featured in James Bond movies and Dan Brown novels. The massive Topkapi Palace where the Sultans ruled for 800 years. There are numerous Archeological museum that holds the region’s amazing hidden history. If you cannot afford five star hotels, there are plenty of small hotels, hostels, and pensions houses that are affordable and family-oriented.
Ephesus/Kusadasi. It’s one of the best and biggest Roman ruins outside Italy where the fans of the “Raedors of the Lost Ark” will be fascinated. Few meters away are the remains of Greek Temple of Artemis (one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World). And just a short drive, experience the majestic beachside port of Kusadasi. La Vista is a boutique hotel located on the hills on the side town that will give any visitor the best views of the harbor and islands including the Greek Isle of Samos.
