Travel Guide: Japan For First Timers

Japan is probably one of the most interesting countries in the world. The blend of high technology and the deep culture of this city is what makes it attractive to many tourists from all over the world. Since this city is deeply rooted in culture, you can expect that their ways of living will be a lot different from the city where you live in. To help you adjust to it, here are some of the things that you should know about:

·         Bow.
Japanese people are known for being polite and that is why you must also take the time to give respect to them in return. One of the best ways to give them respect is to greet them and you can do that by bowing your head to them. To do a casual bow, you must bow your head 15 degrees forward. This is recommended if you come across teenagers and the younger generation. If you will be greeting the elders, you must bow deeply from the waist.

·         Walk on the left side.
Japanese people practice left hand driving so you must learn to do walk on the left side. If you will be driving, make sure to park on the left. Additionally, it would also be best if you will stay on the left side when riding elevators or escalators.

·         Food is expensive.
One thing that you should understand when traveling to Japan is the fact that food is expensive. That is why it is best if you will ditch the restaurants and opt for streetfoods and groceries instead. The local shops offer plenty of delicious noodles, spreads, rice cakes at a much more affordable price.

·         Know how to eat right at the bar.
Once you are done with your food when eating in a  bar, it is recommended that you place your bowl upside up at the counter of the bar. In addition to that, you must also not forget to wipe the counter using the damp towel that will be served in front of you.

·         Know how to bill out properly.
If you wish to get the bill of your meal, do not wave at the waiters. Instead, form an x by crossing your forefingers. After that, just simply wait for the waiter to bring you your check.
There are lots of things to know about Japan. More than researching about what food to eat in Japan, you should also familiarize yourself with the different laws, customs and traditions that the country has. In this way, you can keep yourself safe, avoid offending the locals and you can also make the most out of your trip.
