To travel long distances
is not that simple, especially when you are traveling with toddlers and kids.
They are unpredictable and they do not really understand what is going
on. This is why parents are sometimes thought twice whether to bring or
not to bring their little ones; however, traveling with your kids is one of the
precious experience you could ever have. Below are some suggestions to make
long distance travels easier and smoother with kids.
Try to go with the
flow. It is common that you have daily routines and habits at
home, which you would like your children to strictly stick to. During the
travel, it is not bad to be a little bit tolerable. Try not to scold your
kid if he does not want to sleep or if he is not eating the usual.
Let your kid feel that
this moment is something special and he can do something different; however,
make sure to still remind your kid regarding the good values and etiquette that
were taught at home.
Take charge of your
attitude. Kids can sometimes be annoying to some other passengers,
especially to those who never experienced traveling with kids. Remember
that you cannot please all your co-passengers. Some understand,
but some may even give you an accusing look, since you are the ones to be
blamed for a misbehaving kid. Just be nice and smile. Apologize if you
need to, but at the end of the day, they won’t really matter at all.
Carry healthy
snacks and water. Kids can feel hungry anytime, so it is better if you
are prepared. You may also offer them snacks to keep them
entertained when they start to feel bored during the long flights.
You may bring colorful candy and other sweet stuff. You may
also bring cracker, nuts, bars and other nutritious snack.
Take advantage of their
nap time. More or less, you have an idea about their nap and sleep time.
When kids are sleepy, they tend to be more unpredictable. When you
start to recognize that your kid is feeling sleepy, take advantage of the
situation to also nap. This will help you recharge yourself and regain
your energy. Travelling can be very exhausting, especially when you are
the one who is looking after the kids.
