Some people,
when they travel, they are very persuasive. Talking to strangers at the pubs
and always willing to make friends with others.
A big no for
introverts. Introverts are like battery operated devices, they need to be
recharged within to be able to work while extroverts are like solar powered,
they are being recharged outside to work. The question is, how do you deal with
etiquette to anyone in this world traveling with a lot of extroverts? Well, how
do you say to shut up in a polite way when you’re seated next to a talkative
person?
Be direct. Be gentle and
polite in a kind tone as possible.
What if the person did not listen and continued
talking?
You can say
extreme excuses like “I am really sorry, but I prefer not to talk again. Excuse
me if I do not respond’.
For example, you
are at a B&B at a big shared table?
It depends on how the B&B is arranged, you might just want to eat elsewhere if you can. Try to check if
there is a chance of having food to go. Hosts are aware that there is a range;
some people prefer to be on their own.
What if the taxi driver would not leave you on your
own?
For Taxi’s or
Uber’s, some may start asking you some questions, try to answer in on or two,
but you can tell them that you may need a rest as you are tired from a long
travel. Try to give reasons for you not to continue the conversation.
If it happens that you encounter a talkative person, a
nosy staff on a customer support call, let us say an airline?
Try to have an
expert tone. You may say ‘I am a little pressed for time’. This is one of the
best ways to stop a bad situation. These conversations are recorded, so if the
staff want to follow the rules then let them stick to business, let them keep
chit-chatting, it will only result in a wasted time.
Are you expecting to be left alone if you sit at the
bar on a dinner?
Not. When you
sit at the bar, people may possibly sit next to you and start a conversation.
If that is the only available seat and if they refused to seat singles at
tables, you may say an excuse like ‘I hope you understand but I am not in the
mood to chat.’
Does bringing a book will let people to leave youalone?
Nowadays, mobile
phones are one of the tricks. It works sometimes, but for a chatty person, it
doesn’t.
No matter how
you politely say it, some people might be offended. Do not take it seriously,
you have done what is right and it is not your responsibility to entertain
them.
